History
On
this site, BBQ has been served for 45 plus years. Two
time national BBQ champion Mr. George Young, still
alive & kickin' and telling his many stories acquired
the land from Mr. George Vanderbuilt in the early 60's.
He began cooking his hogs and serving them under
tents until the mid 60's then a block building
was established and the name "Yum Young & Sons"
was placed on it (aka Yum Yums). Mr. Young then
began cooking on the pit in the middle of the building
using coals from the fireplace. Sometime
in the mid 80's Mr. Young retired and began
leasing the building which remained for the most
part a take out BBQ pit.
In
May of 1999, Gregg Eaddy leased the building and
changed the name to Hog Heaven and along with retaining
the take out business he began to build a
dine in and catering business as well. In the late
summer of 1999 he added a buffet and as the business
grew, so did the building. After 1 year he began the
first of many additions, including an air conditioned
dining area with a seating capacity of 70 as well
as a new kitchen area. The following year a new prep
and storage area was added to keep up with the
expanded business. In 2003 the back deck (Raw Bar)
area was added, here you can find some of the freshest
and best prepared seafood the area has to offer. The
bar itself is made of a true lowcountry oyster table
(it has holes in it for the oyster shells) and
there are several tables with a seating capacity of
about 140 . Although the building has changed
its looks dramatically, you can still find the vinegar
based BBQ (Pawleys Island Style) inside and out.
Live music and karaoke sometimes surrounds the scenic
outdoors as you enjoy your casual, laid back meal...
